Children Of The Lakes Region
On the threshold of the White Mountains
In the foothills of New Hampton
The sun begins to warm the valley.
The cold winter morning
Is melted and sprayed
Past the glistening freeze.
The age of a season has passed.
I can feel spring and see it
Lightly, loftily, taking
Note of the passing.
The morning greets me
With its regional substance
Of multiple shadows dancing in a single bowl.

Beautifully measured and with a deftness of pace that speaks to the presence of season and time. For me, your best piece I’ve read so far… With Best Wishes Scott

I, too, was most struck by the shadows dancing in a single bowl………fantastic closing line! Love the feeling of winter lifting, too…….I have been nearly hysterical with relief at having a pinch more daylight at the end of each day – which tonight will be even longer, with the time change…yippee! Hope you had a good week, ZQ! Mine passed in the usual haze……..I feel like a tired horse, flogged beyond the point of protest!

It does… and now the children have their own bowls, finding out, shadows can jump from bowl to bowl 🙂

Yes! All of them, the seasons here, seem to always be my eternal clock too; each with the “same old” but with a different outlook 🙂
