MY GRAVE MISTAKE

27 Jul

“If someone renounces themselves,

then whatever they might keep,

 wether it be a kingdom or honour

or whatever it may be,

they will still have renounced

all things.”

                                                           Meister Eckhart

I have lost everything I loved,

trampled below me and from above

I cannot find those things anymore.

They have been sacked and plundered, scorched and scored;

Expelled from the belly of a Trojan horse

Wrapped and gifted, without remorse.

 Perhaps, I had to abandon those things

 in my surrender, in my winter before the Spring;

Empty handed, on my knees,

To learn there is nothing sacred, for desire without need.

As I grow older, more mature, more disposed

to release those things  I can’t believed in anymore,

You, have stayed at my side, through this resolution,

to help me place the plastic flowers of illusion

At the grave sites of what I thought was at stake;

Allowing me, now, to be peacefully embraced

At the foot of my grave mistake.

    Wonderful style ZQ! Your play on words to eventually surprise us with their meanings in different context of situations shows brilliance. Word ‘grave’ is case in point!

    Overcoming struggles and change brings out the strength we didn’t realize was inside of us. Once we understand that we are strong enough, anything is possible. Well done, sir 🙂

    i agree with them, one of your best, and a powerful one at that.

    “and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul..” i did not say this. i guess you know where this quote came from. 🙂

    Perhaps like me you have looked around at a lifetime of memories, books, pictures, pitiful objects and memories now forgotten. Living in the past, even planning the future is futile when there is only now.

    I agree with Sherry. This is one of your best. I wonder perhaps if sometime we have to lose things to find out what is really important; and that we never lose. It is nice to have someone by your side through losses though, someone who understands and stands by! Keep penning and sharing your poems, ZQ.

    There is some real power and depth here – especially liked these two lines:

    “Perhaps, I had to abandon those things
    in my surrender, in my winter before the Spring;”

    For me, a real glow of erudition here…

    One of your best, ZQ, and how I resonate, having shed some tears this weekend for all I have lost – like you, everything I have loved. I like, at poem’s end, that one has stood by you faithfully, allowing you now to be “peacefully embraced at the foot of my grave mistake.” Thank heaven for the steadfast. Bless you, my friend.

    This is a truly profound piece, ZQ. I had a strange feeling of synchronicity when I read it having just finished my own poem on a similar theme. You state your case far better than I.
    Thank you.

    A lot of wisdom here. A very thought-provoking piece. Existential ideas always remind me of Samuel Beckett and Albert Camus. It’s a very intriguing philosophy (quite possibly the one I most relate to).

    Well penned. And a fitting quote.

    ‘I cannot find those things anymore.’ ~ these phrase struck me as it’s about me too.. (One more cup of coffee if you will….xx) different lives, reasons, obstacles, but yes, we need find the peace in new things, new relationships between and inside….it meant to be an experience, it meant to be a lesson, this is why it hurts, and we don’t have to renounce from ourselves as it well said in the quote above. ~ Thank you for reminding….
