Valentine’s Day Blizzard

15 Feb

Snowflakes falling, glittering in glare

Placed after pace, in trace after face

Settling everywhere.

Wind in white out, whirling haste,

Chocolate hearts and one headlight out

Remembering, a love without any doubt

In the car, happy to see me, braced

And opening the box of candy

Softly saying, “slow down,

 We are almost there”.

My foolish days, I felt, I left,

chases me in hurried pace,

and catches me at times,

unaware that I am not that smart,

or wise, or perhaps a bit unsound

whenever I find myself in places,

 making a left turn instead of a right;

spinning in snow or finding myself

dancing in melting rain.

(I somehow, always with the help of love, find my way back home

to start all over again).

…I remember when we’d chance a storm to see each other. Thank goodness we are under one roof now. Sweet.

Is it me, or is your poetry rather special? You remind us there are so many more reflections than just light in the falling of snow…you are going to hate me now, for saying this, but your style and the way you use words is reminiscent of Dylan Thomas, at least to me.

Wind in white out, whirling haste, a lovely line, a love inside, a good reason to slow down …. I enjoyed this poem!

One of those things that one needs to go through. If only life can be less demanding in times of need!

“unaware that I am not that smart,
or wise, or perhaps a bit unsound” yes, that unawareness – we can even fool ourselves.

With ‘snowflakes falling’ you take me to this magic of settle down…thinking of right/left turns and going home in safety of love. Nice poem for cold winter.

A lot of snow in the poems today. I liked the contrast between the warmth of home and chocolates and the blizzard outside.

Oh how I know those mistaken turns, and also the finding one’s way home to start all over again. So many endings, to catch at the heart. So many beginnings over again. Sigh. The words come to mind, “too soon old, too late smart”….as applies to me, my friend, rather spectacularly. I have heard of late bloomers, but I am ridiculous!

I have been experiencing those blizzards of late….I have found myself lost as well but it is joyful when we find our way home.

I adore both stanzas/sections. Together, they create a full picture of love’s peaks and valleys and our humanity within relationships.

Whether it be ‘wind in white out, whirling haste’, or a drowning downpour – both blinding – finding one’s way home, comforts the heart and soul, and tired, but at last, clear eyes.

Wishing you a lovely week ahead.

    thank goodness for love…and grace…
we got snow last night finally…and 50-60 mph winds…
i was driving home through the mountains
and my heart thudded with each rock
of the van…glad for grace in getting home..
    smiles.
