Winter’s Lover

31 Oct

I’m not getting around doing much reading lately. Listening to my own head and writing notes into drafts, into outlines, revised again and again trying to avoid the trash; has been taking the days. But, I continue my short walks through the woods outside my “cave” and enjoy autumn swooshing summer away in grand fashion; as the days get shorter and the nights get longer, she prepares for a great sleep over, getting completely naked for winter.

Fallen leaf in frost

Pines shelter an autumn grove

for winter’s lover

I love the parallel of inner and outer reality. How happy that makes solitude and the anticipation of the leaf’s first fling. Each word drawn into a sentence (and then built upon) might feel the same way!

Oh, I love that image, of nature getting completely naked in readiness for winter. Very cool. I am not getting around much either, and am also working on a book of stories. So glad to hear you are too.

Solitude is good for the soul. Beautifully penned. I love the imagery and the sentiments, topped off by a splendid haiku. 🌹

A good balance to break the impasse by going for little walks in between takes. It helps!

‘sleep over’… it can play a few ways (probably more than a few) – what came first to my mind was the sleepovers with friends that kids have, and staying up into the wee hours until giddiness sets in and a certain surreal cast to things manifests… but then there are adult sleep overs too *wink*
