Existential Re-union: The real King and Queen

28 Sep

How can a king, be king,

When the Queen, continues to dawdle?

Or, the queen be queen,

When the King, continues to dawdle?

When the Queen, continues to dawdle,

Or, the queen be queen,

Then what does it matter,

When the King, continues to dawdle?

They need an existential re-union,

Not an egotistical waddle.

(Hmmm! Sounds like someone has to wash the dishes,

And the other, has to wipe.

They can both put them away.)

My 16-year marriage has survived in large part because we both eschew royalty! The only queen in our house is our old kitty, Diva. But then again, I think dawdling fell out of fashion far too soon. We need that “smell the roses” mentality back in our microwaved culture, no?

Thanks for visiting and commenting. I love how many Scrabble points one could rack up with your initials!! Amy

Maybe things would be easier on them if they could retire from their functions every now and again and just take a private vacation.

Okay, I seriously love this, especially them both putting away the dishes…….this reads like an existential love story of the Romantically Traumatized….hee hee. (That would be me, I confess!)

Yes, I have been called out on many occasions for that by a few teachers. I use them when I want the reader to pause (aware of its repetition, enough to be called the comma-kaze). Dashes ( -) and extended space between words have been recommended. I’m working on it. It’s a twelve step program 🙂
Nice to hear from you and I always enjoy your visit.

It did come to mind; as I was watching people in their relationships. Who are totally unique, but somehow fail to see the true equality in a realm that lacks understanding and wisdom to accept that their rule is one among many.
Resolve, step aside, or go around in an action of grace. Your “Kingdom” is always yours 🙂

I liked the stop and start and the movement of the words as they repeated and rhymed…oh those dawdling royals.

I was, put off by the use, of unnecessary, commas. However if you did that knowingly and intentionally for artistic reasons, I can support that. I liked the poem, not quite sure what it’s about (which is probably part of what I like about it.) I thought it was generally well crafted except for the already-mentioned comma thing. Very good work.
