The Soul of Maurice J. *[A dedication to Paul Lenzi]

14 Jul

*( written 5 yrs ago with another of my family’s  Patriarch’s Passing)

 It was three days

And three nights

Before he could rise again.

Death invites itself

Long before we receive

Its invitation.

The Soul with grace

And poise

Accepts the moment.

Who then is preoccupied

With judgement

Of this one;

Of this mist

That is dried by the sun

And returns as the pond?

The passage

Is insignificant

If balance has been achieved.

Only the witnesses

Are important

As another soul is freed.

So nicely done… this verse is haunting:
    Death invites itself
    Long before we receive
    Its invitation.

This is beautifully evocative. You depict an entirely new way of looking at death.

My father passed a couple of weeks ago, and there were years of buildup to the moment – mythically rendered, though, it was three days and nights. I read this and watched him go. And yes, I agree dying is for the witnesses, death is just evaporation come back as tomorrow’s pond. Well done …

A strong message…we can’t RSVP death’s invitation. Amen for the souls freed..albeit one at a time.

ZQ, the last stanza of this poem expresses how Death should be celebrated, as a release. Especially, having witnessed the slow and painful deaths of my oma (at 89 years old, to cancer) and dad (62 years old, brain death from a heart attack). Little over two years apart.

Thank you, for your eloquence, in expressing this.

Wow! Love! Whether the water cycle or the resurrection, balance, balance toward freedom. How lovely!

This is quite wonderful. I attended a celebration of life just yesterday for a newly freed soul. I like your lines about death inviting itself long before we get the invitation. I do feel little hints of its arrival. Must sweep the door sill in preparation. It is always a pleasure to read you, my friend.
